- Home I’ve always been equally passionate about film and music. I remember walking out of my first movie at the cinemas, totally mesmerized, deciding “I’m going to be a film composer.” What’s always drawn me to both mediums is that they are about telling a story. The discovery of a new world, the anticipation of the exotic yet familiar, provoking emotions and thoughts that hopefully lead to a discovery of our own humanity. When I approach scoring a movie, the essential element is for me to get to the core and essence of the film. To musically represent the ideas and themes in the film, serve the drama, and heighten the emotional impact of the scenes. But I always like to take it a step further, going beyond that to figure out what it is that makes the movie unique and how the music can do the same. Where can I musically go to make the score distinctive? Is it going to feature an instrument from another culture? Am I going to record a sound effect and process it to be unrecognizable yet musical? An atypical combination of instruments? An unexpected juxtaposition of instruments to picture?…

- AboutAward-winning film composer Aaron Symonds has scored a diverse range of projects, including feature films, TV series, documentaries and commercials. His most recent projects include a horror mini series directed by Joe Dante “Splatter”, “Man Who Saves The Wild” (National Geographic), “The Response” starring Kate Mulgrew, Peter Reigert and Sig Libowitz which was selected by the Academy as one of the 10 semi-finalists for the 2010 Oscar for Best Short Film (Live Action), several (History Channel) documentaries, commercials for Mercedes and Comcast, a CGI film for AMD / ATI Radeon, an animation for Joe Dante / Elizabeth Stanley, and conducting his music on the Fox Studios scoring stage. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Aaron Symonds grew up in Australia where he studied composition, orchestration, conducting and numerous instruments from an early age. As a teenager he began working on films, TV series and theatre productions for some of Australia’s flagship theatre companies. Several years ago, he moved to Los Angeles where he now resides with his wife and new-born son, his state-of-the-art film scoring studio and his conducting baton.
